Ethan has always been very articulate. But, every once in a while, he still comes out with some funny kid verbage. The other day he came running up to me after counting his money (a favorite pastime of late) and said, "Mom, I have way more cents than I thought I did." I had to laugh because of course I was thinking "sense."
Speaking of verbage, Gabe is now babbling away. He says, "Dad, Bye, Mom, Syd, Woof, Uh-oh." He tries really hard to say, "Ethan" and was even trying to copy me when I said, "I love you" the other day. He signs "more" and nods his head for yes and shakes his head for no. He still has not figured out how to crawl. He just goes backwards and in circles. I've been calling him "Little Scooter" lately . . . now I know where Scott's nickname came from.
I have to add something about Sienna now too I guess. Her latest thing is, "Awe, Mom." Perfectly drawn out to sound like a big kid completely disgusted by me (giving each word two syllables). The only thing is, it makes me smile every time she says it because she's so darn cute. I'm sure one day it will not be cute, but for now I just kind of turn my head and smile when she says it.

Confirmation
Okay, I just have to post this because it's just so nice to get some sort of confirmation that we're doing something right!
Last week, my friend Virginia (the mother of Ethan's "best, best, best friend") told me that at parent teacher conference Mrs. Orme had told her about something Ethan had said. The story is long, but basically there was one child giving others problems (being mean, saying he was going to beat them up if they didn't do/say what he told them to, etc. . . in Kindergarten!). Virginia's son was one of the ones being picked on. He was having a rough time and was being emotional at home because he didn't know how he should react when finally all of this came out. Anyway, one particular day, Joel was really being bothered by this boy and Mrs. Orme overheard Ethan and Joel talking. Ethan said, "Don't worry, Joel, it's okay. We don't have to be best friends with everybody, but we can be still kind to everyone." Mrs. Orme told her that she just wanted to ask Ethan to go up to the front of the class to tell them all that. She didn't mention it to me at our parent/teacher conference, so I'm grateful to have heard it from Virginia.
Another thing that happened was today at Gabe's 9-month checkup with Dr. Brown. Of course, I had all three kids and they were talking to Dr. Brown and to eachother, but being relatively good for three kids cooped up waiting for the Dr. Towards the end of the appt., Dr. Brown said, "You know, we laugh because they're being silly and a little noisy, but your kids are some of the most well-behaved kids that come in here." He was very serious and I thanked him.
Such a good feeling that even though if feels like complete chaos at home, some of it is sinking in.

This is the life . . .
Just sitting here tonight rocking Gabe to sleep and listening to the soft piano music playing (Nearer My God To Thee) and enjoying the peaceful coziness. Looking around at Sienna's shoe, Gabe's bib, Ethan's pencil, a burp cloth . . . all scattered over my livingroom floor. Thinking about the dishes and laundry that need to be done. Thinking that I should lay Gabe down because, after all, he's been asleep for about 5 minutes already. But, I cuddle on because looking at the kid clutter and smelling Gabe's newly washed hair, I realize that this is the life. I don't really want anything more at this moment because all too soon it will be gone. Too soon the kids will be grown and I will have nothing better to do than clean my house. I'll take the clutter for now . . .

The Spirit
I just love General Conference. It seems like the talks get better and better every year . . . or maybe I'm just getting older so they mean more. Either way, we had a good weekend being nourished by the word.
It is so amazing and humbling to me that we've been given the opportunity to raise these beautiful little spirits. They are still so pure and trusting and loving and untarnished by worldly things.
We were watching an old Seminary video clip in between sessions while we were making lunch. All of the sudden Ethan kind of looked up at me and said, "Watching this makes me feel sort of embarrassed." I could tell that wasn't the word he actually meant to say, so I asked him what he meant and what he felt like. He said he felt kind of funny and good and like he was going to cry. The people in the video were talking about how they new that Heavenly Father was there for them no matter what, even when sometimes they might feel alone. It was a wonderful experience to have a discussion with him about feeling the Spirit and how it is there to be a guide for us, to let us know if things are right or wrong or to warn or comfort us.
Sienna also recently was touched. We were in church and one of the young women played a piano solo. It was very beautifully played and I was enjoying it very much. Sienna, after listening very intently, turned to me and said, "This makes me feel happy."
Wonderful kids.
